A Jong is a miniature sailboat. Usually about 1 to 2 meters in length. Although it is only powered by the wind, on favourable conditions, a Jong is capable of skimming across the water at very high speeds.
Children weren’t the only ones who played with Jongs. Back in the old days, Jong racing was a big communal event. Representatives from kampongs (villages) all over would send in their best Jongs to compete in such an event. In true kampong spirit fashion, everyone would play a part in preparing for the race day.
