Handheld electronic games were the must-have plaything for children growing up in 80s Singapore. They are small and portable, so its not surprising that many students sneaked them into schools to play in between classes.
There were literally hundreds of handheld games to choose from, but some were more popular than others. Nintendo’s Game & Watch Octopus was a huge hit as was Casio’s Western Bar. Handhelds were at their most popular from the late 1970s into the early 1990s. They are both the precursors to and inexpensive alternatives to the handheld game consoles of today.
