Bola Tin was a popular kampong (village) game. “Bola” means “ball” in Malay. Tin refers to the use of tin cans, usually from discarded condensed milk tins. It is a team game that basically revolves around the destruction and re-building of a stacked-up tin can pyramid. One plays the role of a destroyer, while the other plays the role of a rebuilder.
As with most games from the past, Bola Tin is rarely played nowadays. Most Singaporeans who grew up after the kampong days may not even be aware of its existance as more globally popular sports such as soccer and basketball have already taken over by then.
